This week at Bianca's house

Mom's Group Light

This week it was our turn (Bianca and Anthony Joseph) to host playgroup. It was a smaller but intimate crowd. Emily surprised us by showing up for a quick appearance. Though baby Lillian has yet to make her formal induction to the group, Big Sister Julia had her friends all to herself. Kerri, (who we discovered was called "Aunt Ki-ki" buy her nephew) Ashley, Meridith and Penelope also came by for the fun. Aimee and Rylan were unable to make it due to an appointment, and Melody's nap schedule had her napping in the late afternoon, so Pam decided to call out. We had an extra addition at playgroup with my (Bianca) younger sister Katie who was here on winter break. She was a help getting things ready before everyone arrived and played with all the kids. There was a remarkable connection between her and Julia and they looked as if they were long lost soul mates!
It was Kerri and Ashley's first day out in about a week, so Ashley enjoyed releasing some pent up energy. Meridith recapped her weekend entertaining and spoke of her upcoming plans for the bachelorette party as Penelope was doing a good job sharing and playing. Anthony Joseph seemed to be a little more distant from the girls today as he woke up late and cranky from his nap to a house full of people. He spent most of the time watching "Thomas the Train." I announced to the group that we booked out trip to Italy. It will be overlapping the afternoon with Anita Renfroe on May 1st, so I will have to refund or scalp my ticket. Meridith is also making vacation plans like for this summer, A disney cruise-The ideal family get-a-way! As the spring and summer are slowly approaching we are all making fun plans, be it vacations, weekend get-a-ways, Birthdays and such. Until then, this Friday night is our mom's night out at two steps, and next week we are back over at Pam's again. Sorry, we were slacking a little this week and no one took pictures. I guess we will have to double up next time! Have a good week everyone. :)

Momma Love

The Ladies

the boys

This past Tuesday we had a wonderful Valentines day party at Kerri and Ashley's home. Kerri made some valentines yummies, and the kids decorated Valentine cards to their mom's and dad's. Ashley couldn't wait for her mom to give her a goodie and swiped a brownie from the table quickly hopefully nobody saw her. The girls enjoyed running up and down the hall way and hanging out in Ashley's room. The boys enjoyed the food, some music, and some loven' from their moms! The group has already made it to discussing birthday parties this year (they don't turn 2 until May/June). We are all already overwhelmed with the thought. We have yet to come out with great advice for each other, and I am sure future gatherings will include this topic. We missed Emily and Julia (as the day of the party was one week since Lillian's birth!), and we look forward to many upcoming occasions with the new expanded family. Bianca will be up next! She reports that she is feeling great! Another topic of discussion was what we were doing for Valentines Day and how none of us were actually "going out" . Next week the group meets up a Bianca's home!

**Please note some of the pictures appear tiny because they are not my photos and are not loading correctly--sorry for the photo mini's

**disclaimer--I would also like to note that the blog photographer (ME) has been a lazy @$$...therefore the very kind host took the pics this week and I am sorry Kerri for not nabbing one of you! Next Mom's group --watch out--photo mantage of Kerri!

A must see for MOMS

I got this forward today and had to share it with all the MOMS out there:

I'm invisible

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?" Obviously not. No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all.

I'm invisible.

Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this?

Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, "What time is it?" I'm a satellite guide to answer, "What number is the Disney Channel?" I'm a car to order, "Right around 5:30, please."

I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history & the mind that graduated summa cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going ... she's going .... she's gone!

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress; it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a banana clip, and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, "I brought you this." It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe. I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: "With admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees."

In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work:

* No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names.
* These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished.
* They made great sacrifices and expected no credit.
* The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, "Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it."

And the workman replied, "Because God sees."

I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost if I heard God whispering to me, "I see you. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become."

At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.

When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, "My mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table." That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, I hope he says, "You're gonna love it there."

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot see if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

Last week Mom's group at Pam's!

This entry is written by the Host Pam since I was unable to attend group due from a family loss:

We were glad to host this week with a surprise Mardi Gras theme. Although we dearly missed Aimee, we have her entire family in our prayers during this time of loss. Rylan, however was able to party and enjoy the festivities. Emily & Julia missed this week also, because Emily was not feeling up to it. As it turned out, she actually welcomed Lillian into her family while we were enjoying po' boys and moon pies. The beads were a big hit, and Anthony actually showed us a little skin for some! Look out ladies! Ashley had one too many moon pies, and decided to run around the house chasing Penelope and having a great time of it. All of the kids played really well together, and there were very few 'terrible two' moments. Maybe there's hope for them to learn how to share after all!
We look forward to next week where we will invade Kerri's house for our Valentines Day party.
